Lucy Lucas has been at the helm of established Wānaka fashion store for more than 20 years. QT Magazine caught up with her about the new summer season ahead.

How does it feel to have reached over two decades with Escape?

My passion for design and textiles continues to grow having always been interested in clothes since my mother, Clare, taught me to sew at the age of 10. 

I curate our seasonal ranges with high-quality fabrics and well-designed garments that are both inspiring and versatile for special occasion and everyday wear.

How would you describe the style of the store for those yet to discover Escape?

Elegant, timeless and welcoming. We offer exceptional service that our customers appreciate, and we strive for a high standard of excellence in everything we do at Escape. Our mission is to empower every person who shops with us instore or online to leave feeling confident and in love with their purchase.

We offer beautiful garments from leading New Zealand and international designers such as Camilla, Cable, Loobies Story, Trelise Cooper, Morrison, Jets Swimwear, Mos the Label, Devotion Twins, Moss & Spy and Second Female. 

What are some of the new pieces instore for the 2025 summer season?

“There are lots of gorgeous resort style pieces from Camilla that are perfect for special occasions to boating days on Lake Wānaka or an evening out with friends. The Loobies Story range includes pretty tops and dresses as does Mos The Label and Cable. Our inhouse brand Luca offers stylish shorts and t-shirts that are super popular.  We have a great range of designer beachwear from leading brands Devotion Twins, Jets, Seafolly and our new range Bondi Born with a wide range of colours and styles along with beach accessories including beach shirts, Kaftans and Sunhats.
