Artisan Fashion Approach

The Nicola Screen Store opened in Wānaka two years ago and today is a destination for a growing clientele of women aspiring to originality and individual style.

New Zealand fashion designer Nicola Screen’s bespoke seasonal collections reflect her personal design ethos with the pieces exclusively available online or in her Precinct Lane store.

“When I discovered The Precinct space while on holiday in 2021 I realised it perfectly aligned with my aesthetic and was delighted to lease a space a year later. I already had a store in Greytown and there was a distinct synergy between the two resort locations.”

Nicola has an artisan approach to her elegant, minimalist signature styles with capsule collections made in-house in limited quantities.

“I design for timeless functionality embracing traditional, sustainable and ethical processes of an atelier,” says Nicola.  “Fabrication is never compromised. I love using textiles such as Japanese natural dyed cotton, linens and organic silk that’s sewn with silk thread and hand dyed in-house. Mud silk is a traditional Chinese process using natural plant dyes, river mud and sunshine to create a one hundred per cent ecological finished textile that is stunning to look at and wear.”

The store stocks unisex Italian brand Never Enough that complements the handwriting of Nicola’s brand. The collection features high-quality natural fibres and muted colours with leather shirt jackets for men and women being the most coveted pieces.

Now living permanently in Wānaka  Nicola is enthusiastic about the upcoming summer season. Her latest organic silk prints have recently arrived instore including the Silk Organza story and Poete pleat story.

“The new collections signify an elegance that is forever in fashion which epitomises my style. I’m enjoying nurturing relationships with my clientele from throughout New Zealand and overseas who’ve supported my brand for 30 years as well as creating new relationships with people who are just discovering it.”
