A shared interest in allergic diseases led Wanaka doctors Emily O’Regan and Nikki Vadgama to open The Allergy Doctors to support people suffering from allergies.

The dedicated Allergy Doctors clinic at the Wanaka Health Centre is by appointment only and offers private consultations and services including allergy testing and treatments catering for individual patients needs and lifestyles.

“Allergies and allergic diseases are increasing both in New Zealand and globally,” says Emily. “Nikki and I noticed this in our general practice work prompting us to complete postgraduate training in allergic diseases.”

 “We opened The Allergy Doctors in April 2022 to improve access for our rural community to evidence-based medical care and to provide support to patients and families affected by allergies.”

The Allergy Doctors treat infants, children and adults experiencing food allergies, hay fever, oral allergy syndrome, eczema, hives and angioedema, bee or wasp stings, and anaphylaxis.

“Allergic symptoms can range from mild to severe and in the case of anaphylaxis can sometimes be life threatening. There can be a significant functional and emotional burden on patients and their families from these symptoms. We aim to provide clear, evidence-based diagnoses and management plans to help alleviate some of this stress and improve the quality of life of our patients and their families,” says Nikki.

With over 30 years of combined medical practice and independent qualifications Emily and Nikki offer a patient centred approach alongside their knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise.

The two Central Otago general practitioners are Fellows of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and hold post graduate qualifications in allergic disease from Western Sydney University.
