A Taste of Cromwell

Cromwell’s Jackson Orchards has carved a reputation as a regional foodie attraction. The fourth-generation orchard flourishes in spring and summer providing an abundance of fruit on site which is packed in its state-of-the-art packing shed at the northern gateway to Cromwell.

“Cherries are the most popular fruit with our New Zealand wide mail order delivery selling out often eight weeks in advance of the fruit coming into season,” says owner Kevin Jackson. “This is followed closely by our famous Central Otago dried apricots. We can’t dry enough of them to satisfy the market with several tonnes sold instore and online each season – it’s quite remarkable.”

Jackson Orchards store is a favourite location for fresh fruit, vegetables, dried goods and other locally grown products.

“ We stock a large range of local honey and preserves made from our fruit that are hugely popular not only with locals but also travellers who like to take a taste of Cromwell home with them,” he says.

Kitchen Window Catering has opened a new kitchen at Jackson Orchards creating their range of award winning jams, chutneys and dressings alongside fresh, healthy salad bowls such as  Moroccan chicken with apricot sauce, brown rice and fresh vegetables.

“We’ve also welcomed popular sweet treats caravan She Bakes NZ selling gorgeous cakes, slices and hot drinks,” says Kevin.

 Take a Tour

Spring is an ideal time to experience Jackson Orchards in full bloom.

“Our orchard tours operate all year with something different to see each season but spring is very busy with pruning in progress and the bees in action working hard to ensure a good crop,” says owner Kevin Jackson. “The smell of the cherry blossoms in the air is distinctive and the tour is a bucket list attraction for regional visitors to experience. Online bookings are available.”

Fresh & Fruity

The Jackson Orchards ice cream kiosk has a mouthwatering selection of fresh fruit ice creams.

“Our recipe is simple using  good old fashioned  vanilla ice cream or a yoghurt base blended with  frozen fruits, including our own apricots, to create a refreshing taste. The fruit speaks for itself,” says owner Kevin Jackson, “and It’s enticing for customers who can choose any two flavours  including mixed berry, blueberry, raspberry, boysenberry, strawberry, mango, passionfruit and banana blended into a vanilla waffle cone.”
