Lifestyle for Retiring in Arrowtown

Arrowtown Lifestyle Village has become an established part of the local community since opening. QT Magazine spoke to resident Heather and Lindsay Stirling about life in the village.

What first attracted you to Arrowtown Lifestyle Village?

The first promotion of the village was held at the Arrowtown Bowling Club and we were most impressed with the presentation and concept and said to ourselves – “If this gets off the ground, we want to live there”. Talking to residents from Aspiring Village in Wanaka and hearing how they enjoyed their lifestyle encouraged us and gave us the confidence to take the plunge.

What was important for you when choosing where to retire?

The security, the size of the village and the fact that we weren’t moving away from the Arrowtown community were crucial for us. We feel secure knowing that the maintenance of our villa and the surroundings are taken care of, allowing us to enjoy a carefree lifestyle.

What are the benefits of the village’s proximity to Arrowtown?

We love it because we can easily walk into town. We see many village people out walking and being close to the walking tracks and biking trails is a bonus. Golfers can walk from the village to the Arrowtown Golf Club pushing their trundlers on the purpose built track.

Tell us about the community aspect of living at Arrowtown Lifestyle Village

Excellent management and staff have contributed to developing a community. Everything starts at the top. They have created a warm and inviting village culture and together we plan various activities and outings with a van provided for easy transport around the region.

What do you enjoy the most about the new Lodge facility?

The Lodge has stunning panoramic mountain views and a wonderful green space in front which enhances the complex. We are so fortunate to live close by and use it regularly, especially for special events.

We are encouraged to take advantage of the whole facility as if it is our own space — the library, movie theatre, gym and bar are all there for our personal use.

The movie theatre is great and we often watch sport such as netball and rugby there. It’s almost like being at the game.

What sets Arrowtown Lifestyle Village apart?

The size and design of the village have created a very friendly atmosphere. The layout is most appealing and all the villas have stunning mountain outlooks. We can wander over to the Lodge for a coffee in the morning and there is always someone to talk to. Everyone is so welcoming.

What would you recommend to people considering Arrowtown Lifestyle Village?

We thoroughly enjoy living here and recommend anyone thinking about making the change to village living to call in, meet the friendly staff and take a tour of the facilities.

The village provides residents with the freedom to enjoy a carefree lifestyle and families with peace of mind that their parents are living in a safe, secure environment.

Our feeling is people looking at Arrowtown Lifestyle Village as an option shouldn’t leave it too late to make the move and enjoy all the activities and facilities provided in the village. The time to shift is when you are healthy, fit and able to benefit from everything on offer.
