Queenstown’s Hospitality Heroes

Queenstown’s Future Hospitality Group consistently offers exceptional hospitality experiences across their premium Queenstown restaurants, café and bars. QT Magazine takes a look behind the scenes.

Industry Innovator

Future Hospitality Group has a reputation for creating venues providing unforgettable innovative experiences. Co-owned by Queenstown entrepreneurs James Ace and Bert Haines who have 12 years of business experience behind them the venues now include Margo’s, Little Blackwood, Queenstown Ice Bar, Odd Saint, Minus 5 Ice Bar and Little Mez. The pair were excited about the recognition for their outstanding role in the hospitality industry when First Hospitality was named a finalist in the 2023 Queenstown Business Awards.

New Zealand’s Best Bar

The awards keep rolling in for Future Hospitality Group’s Steamer Wharf bar Little Blackwood. Crowned New Zealand’s Best Bar in the 2022 Hospitality New Zealand Awards the bar was also a finalist in the 2023 Queenstown Business Awards. “Little Blackwood is an extraordinary bar experience loved by locals and tourists,” says co-owner James Ace. “Our bartenders serve expertly crafted cocktails complimented by live music nightly in a warm and inviting atmosphere.”

Brunch Vibe

Neighbourhood eatery odd saint has been open for 12 months and during that time has developed a loyal local following. Situated in a sunny north facing locale, the café is a leafy spot for all day brunch and lunch where diners are encouraged to just drop in. “We serve a crowd-pleasing menu that has been refreshed for summer,” says executive chef Matt Tobin. “Dishes like Hippie Banana Bread, El Jefe’s Cubano Sando and Koko’s Falafel Salad really push the boundaries. Firm favourite menu items include our Hoosier Fried Chicken and iconic Hot Wok Duck Fried Rice.”

Coffee & Cocktails

odd saint serves an extensive array of cocktails specifically designed to match their eclectic daytime brunch and lunch menus. “It’s never too early for a cocktail at odd saint,” says executive chef Matt Tobin. “If you’re feeling dusty after the night before then the Bibiana’s Cure cocktail is our version of a Bloody Mary with a kick. Daisy’s Mornin’ Margarita, Flora’s Mimosa and Drogo’s Espresso Martini also really hit the spot.”  The café also serves superb coffee by eightthirty roasters, b.effect kombucha, mocktails, wine and bubbles.
